From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

“Joy to the World” is a popular American Christmas song.

The words are by English hymn writer Isaac Watts, based on Psalm 98 in the Bible. The song was first published in 1719 in Watts’ collection; The Psalms of David: Imitated in the language of the New Testament, and applied to the Christian state and worship. Watts wrote the words of “Joy to the World” as a hymn glorifying Christ’s triumphant return at the end of the age, rather than a song celebrating His first coming. Only the second half of Watts’ lyrics are still used today.

The music was adapted and arranged to Watts’ lyrics by Lowell Mason in 1839 from an older melody which was then believed to have originated from Handel, not least because the theme of the refrain (And heaven and nature sing…) appears in the orchestra opening and accompaniment of the recitative Comfort ye from Handel’s Messiah, and the first four notes match the beginning of the choruses Lift up your heads and Glory to God from the same oratorio. However, Handel did not compose the entire tune. The name “Antioch” is generally used for the tune.

As of the late 20th century, “Joy to the World” was the most-published Christmas hymn in North America.

Gloria in excelsis Deo, performed by Mendham Voices

One of our high school choirs performs a gospel version of the J.S. Bach’s “Gloria in Excelsis Deo.” Recorded at Roxiticus Golf Club’s Candlelight Dinner Concert.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

“Gloria in excelsis Deo” (Latin for “Glory to God in the highest”) is a hymn known also as the Greater Doxology (as distinguished from the “Minor Doxology” or Gloria Patri) and the Angelic Hymn. The name is often abbreviated to Gloria in Excelsis or simply Gloria.

The hymn begins with the words that the angels sang when the birth of Christ was announced to shepherds in Luke 2:14. Other verses were added very early, forming a doxology.

Gloria in excelsis Deo (Glory to God in the Highest), is a church cantata written by the German Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach, and the only one of his church cantatas set to a Latin text. He composed the Christmas cantata in Leipzig probably in 1745 to celebrate the end of the Second Silesian War on Christmas Day.  The composition’s three movements all derive from the Gloria of an earlier Missa written by Bach in 1733, which the composer would later use as the Gloria of his Mass in B minor.

Trio of International songs:
‘Besame Mucho’ ~ Spanish
‘Girl from Ipanema’ ~ Portuguese
‘Volare’ ~ Italian

We wanted to showcase our vocalist/guitarist for your cocktail parties & corporate events. In this video he performs three longtime favorites from the ‘Mad Men’ era: Besame Mucho(in Spanish), Girl from Ipanema(in Portuguese), and Volare(in Italian).

Joe is quite fluent in Spanish and Italian; this is important because he sounds authentic when he sings in the three languages. His first language is English, he sings in that too!

Joe can be booked as a soloist… with the added benefit of getting two musicians in one; since he is a vocalist and a guitarist. If more sound is needed, we can always add more musicians; as shown here.

small band ~ BIG SOUND!

PEARL:  Small Band ~ Big Sound

Pearl performs the Maroon 5 classic, “Moves Like Jagger.”

Pearl performs in the New York tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.  They are one of the few small bands left in the New York Metropolitan Area.  This musical group gets booked very fast and way in advance.

Over the past ten to fifteen years, we have noticed a trend in live music and concert bands.  The trend favors very large music groups.  Back in the 80’s and 90’s, our bands consisted of 4 – 6 members.  Most of our musical groups now have over ten musicians…the average being 12!  This larger groups usually travel with sound and light engineers, because of their size.  What this means to the average consumer is a greater price.  If you are planning a wedding, this really adds up to big bucks when you consider the added cost of feeding an extra 14 people at your wedding!

With only 5 core members, this band can go out as you see in the video or we can add a horn section for a bigger sound.  When we book Pearl at a concert, corporate event, or at a country club, they will usually perform with three more members:  trumpet, saxophonist and an extra vocalist.  When the Pearl Band gets hired for a wedding, the band is perfect the way you see here.

The added bonus!

When planning a party you have the  option of choosing either a steel drummer, guitarist, or pianist for the cocktail hour. The  guitarist in the band, also plays the steel drum.  We love the sound of a steel drum for those fun summer celebrations; whether you are having a birthday party followed by dancing or a beach wedding,  a steel drummer will add a special vibe that says, “the party starts here and now!”  If the piano player is chosen, then the tone is a more elegant and refined sound with a combination of jazz and classical tunes.

We call them a small band with a big sound. Perfect for small wedding receptions, parties, or for when you’re a little tight on space at your party venue.

This group of musicians has performed together for over 20 years.

The Prince of Denmark’s March is more commonly known as the Trumpet Voluntary by Jeremiah Clarke.

This piece of classical music is for the bride that wants to make a grand entrance into the church. Here it is being performed by a duo consisting of a trumpeter and the church organist. The musicians were up in the balcony, the acoustics in the church were spectacular and the music selection was very moving.

Please Note:  We usually recommend to our newly engaged couples that they hire the church organist. These musicians are familiar with the nuances of the particular instrument. Church organs vary greatly, so it is highly recommended that you contract the person most familiar with your church’s organ.

The Order of the Music at a Wedding Ceremony

Processional refers to the music that is being played as the bridal party enters the church, once all the guests are seated. One piece of music for the bridal party, then another for the bride.

The prelude refers to the music performed before the recessional, as the guests are being seated.

The recessional refers to the music at the conclusion of the wedding ceremony. The bride and groom exit first, followed by the bridal party, the parents, and the congregation. Modern couples are changing the rules to suit their needs, the family dynamics and their religion.

About this Song

It is customarily played as the bride enters the church with her father, the processional. The Prince of Denmark’s March was composed by Jeremiah Clarke. It is called The Prince of Denmark’s March, but commonly known as The Trumpet Voluntary.  It was composed for the keyboard, probably, around 1700. This music can be heard at a number of royal weddings, most notably at the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jeremiah Clarke

Jeremiah Clarke (c. 1674 – 1 December 1707) was an English baroque composer and organist.

Biography

Thought to have been born in London around 1674, Clarke was a pupil of John Blow at St Paul’s Cathedral. He later became an organist at the Chapel Royal. After his death, he was succeeded in that post by William Croft.

Clarke is best remembered for a popular keyboard piece: the Prince of Denmark’s March, which is commonly called the Trumpet Voluntary, written about 1700. From c. 1878 until the 1940s the work was attributed to Henry Purcell, and was published as Trumpet Voluntary by Henry Purcell in William Sparkes’s Short Pieces for the Organ, Book VII, No. 1 (London, Ashdown and Parry). This version came to the attention of Sir Henry J. Wood, who made two orchestral transcriptions of it, both of which were recorded. The recordings further cemented the erroneous notion that the original piece was by Purcell. Clarke’s piece is a popular choice for wedding music, and has been used in royal weddings. Most notably the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981.

The famous Trumpet Tune in D (also incorrectly attributed to Purcell) was taken from the semi-opera The Island Princess, which was a joint musical production of Clarke and Daniel Purcell (Henry Purcell’s younger brother)—probably leading to the confusion.

“On Green Dolphin Street” (originally entitled “Green Dolphin Street”) is a 1947 popular song composed by Bronisław Kaper with lyrics by Ned Washington. The song, composed for the film Green Dolphin Street (which was based on a 1944 novel of the same name by Elizabeth Goudge), went on to become a jazz standard after being recorded by Miles Davis in 1958.

The song Proud Mary was written by John Fogerty. It was first recorded by Credence Clearwater Revival (John Fogerty’s band) in 1969, and then again in 1970 by Ike and Tina Turner. It has since become a signature song for Tina Turner. Both versions of the song vary in style and energy, both versions have become well-loved classics.
